a small paradise: PowellsWood

Pay a visit to a remarkable garden and friend of the Arb at South: PowellsWood, a cultivated paradise on Dash Point Road in Federal Way. Its three acres, graced with nearly a thousand varieties of trees, flowering shrubs and plants, are nestled against another 35 acres of native successional forest.

Monte Powell, longtime benefactor of the Arboretum at South and Landscape Horticulture program, also supports an internship that invites SSCC students to work and study at the famous Royal Horticulture Society’s Harlow Carr Garden in England.

PowellsWood is the unique setting for a Storytelling Festival in July, which includes both workshops and performances by master tellers. Find open dates, events information and lots more at www.powellswood.org. The garden opens during events or by appointment. To arrange a visit, please call 253‑529‑1620.
